Book Review - The Guy Not Taken by Jennifer Weiner
This is a book of short stories from the author of Good in Bed and In Her Shoes
, both of which I enjoyed in a throw-away, beach-holiday-read kind of way. I didn´t enjoy The Guy Not Taken as much, but I wonder if that´s because I don´t really get into short stories. There´s not enough time to engage with the characters and I like to get to know them and follow the plot and character development. OK, there´s not usually much in the way of plot or character development in your average chick-lit book, but still, I like to follow the character´s “journey”.
Some of these stories felt a little underdone and unrealistic, others I quite enjoyed. The title story was a cute twist on what I was expecting from the jacket description (new mother stumbles upon her ex´s online wedding registry and thinks about what might have been).
I do like Jennifer Weiner´s books (In Her Shoes the book was much better than the movie) and I will probably read her next offering, but I´m not sure I´ll leap into another short story collection in a hurry.
