Travel Diary

by guera in Travel on 6 March, 2008

Every since Guerita started Kinder (pre-school) last year we have kept a travel diary when we’ve been on a trip back home.

It’s an enjoyable activity for us to do together when we get back from our holidays and helps her to remember what we did and where we went. It’s also good homework for me, writing out the text in Spanish!

Guerita will usually help me choose which photos to use, cut them out herself (I just print them on the home computer) and stick them in the book. I write the text and this time she “signed” her name at the end and drew a picture of her and her teachers. I’d like to continue the activity with her and over time she’ll take over more and more of the writing.

The teachers also write a little note at the end saying how much they missed her and enjoyed seeing her photos and reading about her trip. I like to think the class learns a little bit about Australia and our lifestyle back home from seeing our holiday snaps.

Ever since we left Perth in early 2000 we have had a website (now a blog) as a way to keep in touch with family and friends. It’s got quite a different tone to this blog and is much more like a travel diary. Apart from an easy way to keep in touch with everyone, it has become a fantastic journal of all our travels, for us to look back on and remember the things we’ve done. It’s our electronic diary/photo album and at least this way we’re not subjecting everyone to endless slide nights!

This is such a cute idea! It will be such a good reminder for Guerita also as she gets older too!!!

Glad you got back safely, and despite your flight hassles (I do understand your pain) it sounds like you had a good time back in Perth!

Thanks, guys. I think she will look back on it with good memories, and I like the idea of using the holiday for a little bit of learning too. Not that I’m worried about the school she’s missed at this stage (she’s only 4) but in years to come, maybe.

THis is a fantastic idea.
We always have a travel diary when we go away. We encourage the kids to write as we go though.

It will be something that she will have forever. Something really special to hold onto.
Wonderful memories

I love the pictures of the artwork there. :) A travel diary is a fun idea at any age and a great way to get kids into writing.
